French Cameroonian forward Nicolas Batum, just returned from a long period injury with Charlotte, was defeated in the night of yesterday 100-105 in Miami, Florida, after an incredible 16-1 for the Hornets in the first minutes of the game. The Floridians had to do without their charismatic center Hassan Whiteside but could rely on other players to win a game that had begun in the worst way for them.
Batum, 13 points for 35 minutes played in this game, was quite awkward with a 5/14 on shot, unlike Williams, best scorer of Charlotte with 16 points and 6/7. Former rookie Carter-Williams added 12 points while Dwight Howard did his job of center with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
On Miami’s side, the apocalyptic start was redeemed thanks to bright performances, particularly Dion Waiters, former Cav and Thunder, who scored 19 points including 4 three-point shots. Richardson ended up the game as Miami’s best scorer (27 points), and players like Olynyk (10 points) and Ellington (14 points) contributed to this success as well.
This victory is a positive sign for Miami and a proof that success can be reached even without a big player like Whiteside, that will be missing for two weeks. The Warriors will be the next contenders on next Sunday.
