2013 Miss South Africa Pageant Will No Longer Be Held

The 2013 Miss South Africa Pageant will no longer be held. Normally, the event takes place yearly on December. However, the owners of the beauty pageant, the Sun International, has changed the traditional December crowning to March. This change implies that there will be no Miss SA pageant during December 2013.

Melinda Bam was also made the National Executive of Miss South Africa Pty Ltd. Bam was crowned Miss South Africa in 2011 and was also named the 2013 FHM sexiest woman in the world.

Sue Klerck, the Sun International executive, is happy with the change. For Klerck, the change makes the most sense because it makes it possible for the Miss SA pageant title holders to participate in the Miss Universe pageants as well as in the Miss World contest. Both international contests take place during the last 2 months of the reign of Miss SA pageant holders. Klerck notes that the Miss SA pageant title holders in the previous years were not able to attend the pageant and hand over the crown to the winners of the title because they were away for the two international contests.

Marilyn Ramos, the current titleholder, is also happy with the change. The contest will be held in March 2014 and this means that her reign is extended to March. She will become the longest reigning Miss South Africa when her reign comes to an end on March 2014.

Melinda, the newly appointed National Executive, expresses her faith in the Miss South African Pageant. She hopes to apply her experiences in growing the pageant. According to her, she is proud to receive the Miss SA title, and she believes that beauty improves the important qualities and this for her is what the pageant stands for.
