Fall Fashion 2015 – Trend Guide & Our Fall Favorites

There’s a nip in the air, the leaves are changing colour, and wayward hipsters are reaching for the pumpkin spice – yup, it’s Fall* [or Autumn, if you will] and with it comes, of course, Fall Fashion. If you are unsure of how to focus your Fall/Autumn wardrobe, fret no more, we’ve for you covered [literally and figuratively].

*If you reside in the Southern Hemisphere and are heading into Spring/Summer, feel free to check out our Spring and Summer style guides respectively.

Before we get to the top trend practicalities, we’d like to share a couple of our ‘Fall Fashion Favourites’ with you. We, here at Stream Africa, watched the Fall/Winter 15 catwalks and trunks with bated breaths, and our most beloved African designers did not disappoint.

Our Designer Fall Favourites for 2015

David Tlale

David Tlale is a master, is he not? His collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York 2015 wowed attendees and the above print dress, as well as the stunning black gown with which we opened the article, are two of his most spectacular creations to date – in our humble opinions.

mimi plange

Mimi Plange

This canary-yellow coat by Mimi Plange is sure to stop traffic, in a good way. Brilliant hue aside, we love the silhouette of the coat, the cinched waist and flare of it is very 50s, and we think it is absolutely beautiful.

Selly Raby Kane

Selly Raby Kane

This printed kimono from Selly Raby Kane’s Dakar City of Birds collection boasts exquisite attention to detail and a worldly, urban overtone. Paired with a leather midi-skirt [the likes of which is still everywhere] and off-set by a plain white blouse, the above is our favourite look by Kane and, as apparent by its position in this line-up, is one of our favourite looks of Fall 2015.

What do you think of our favourites line-up? Are there any specific outfits by African designers that stood out to you in 2015? Let us know!

Now, without further ado, our Fall/Autumn 2015 Trend Guide, as promised:

PLAID, PLAID, PLAID

fall style 2015

Masai Wrap Top at KISUA, Miss Me Daisy Dream Skinny Jeans in Medium Blue Wash at Macy’s & Monk Nude Booty by OBI Cymatica.

The Trend: Plaid. Alright, so plaid is not exactly new to the Fall line-up, but would you believe it is now actually trendy? We tell not a word of a lie, it was on catwalks everywhere during the F/W 2015 fashion season. We love this Masai Wrap Top for the fact that it is uniquely African, whilst still being on-trend.

ANATOMY OF GREY

Grey Suit at NEXT, W.B Black Pump by OBI Cymatica & Cynnie Sling Backpack by Elizabeth and James.

The Trend: Grey Suit. Luckily for our work wardrobes, the grey suit is in fashion this season. A quick tip though, have your suit tailored – a good fit works wonders for any suit, and for your figure.

BOOTS WITH THE FUR

fall style 2015

Luna Fur Booty by OBI Cymatica & Rivington Black Ripped Jeggings at ASOS.

The Trend: Fur Boots. No, not uggs, but stylish fur booties like the above by OBI Cymatica – yes, definitely! Ripped skinny jeans are still bang on trend as well.

MAKE A STATEMENT

fall style 2015

Daria Coat at KISUA & Fishnet Tights at Topshop.

The Trend: Statement Coat. Ah, the statement coat, need we say more? We think not, it is a statement coat after all. On a secondary note, patterned and textured black tights/stockings are back with a vengeance, so get some now.

What is your top trend for Fall/Autumn? What will you be wearing? Oh, and be sure to check out our Fall/Winter Skincare guide!
